I'm a newbie here, so please excuse me if this has already been covered. Just tried a new load that came highly recommended. New .223 primed brass (WIN) with 25.0 gr RL-15, under a 75gr. Hornady BTHP Match bullet, loaded to max magazine length (2.250) OAL. I chrono'd five rounds on my Ohler 35P, and had an avg. vel. of 2793fps out of the 24" S/S Wilson 1:9 twist bbl. on my Colt Elite CAR-3. Accuracy was .75"@ 100yds. The real problem is that this thing leaves a WHOLE LOT of powder residue (real dark black) both in the barrel, but also some on the fired cases and in the chamber. What am I doing wrong? Maybe trying this powder is it? Has anyone else out there experienced this ? I've used Varget and H4895 and never experienced this before now!

EWO- That is the load I used for 75gr Hornadies, 77gr SMK's, and currently use for 69gr SMK's, in my MT HBAR 1-7 twist, I have not seen the fouling you talk about. I also use 24.5 grains under the 80gr SMK's same on the fouling, not there.

Not much help just letting you know!

Mike

That is an indication that you need to go to a slightly faster burning powder...

EWO,

I also have one of the colt elite rifles and w/ a 1:9 twist 75gr seems to be a bit much for mine to shoot. 69grSMK's shoot mid 3's &4's 5 shot groups. Mine likes 25.2gr of 748 winchester ball. It will spit the 69's out at about 3000fps What range are you shooting.
I was just wondering why you would want to shoot the heavier bullet. Wind drift perhaps? Those are bad ass rifles aren't they. They started out to be a limited production run but that idea soon changed. I know of only 1 other person with one of those. Now I know 2. Pleased to meet you.
