I have located a modest supply of 7mm / 195gr Barnes Original bullets and I am looking for load data and info on your "pet" 7x57 loads for this bullet.

Thanks.

For a 195gr bullet (maker not specified) Ackley's Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders lists 44gr of 4350 giving a velocity of 2400fps.
Barrel length is not given.

From my oldie-moldy Hodgdon 25th Manual, circa 1986:

7x57 Mauser - Heavy Loads for Ruger Only!!! (M77, I presume)

22" bbl, 195 gr bullet

start load / max load

H4831 43.0/48.0 2,166/2,332 fps
H4350 41.0/44.0 2,178/2,352 fps
H414 41.0/43.0 2,144/2,327 fps

I haven't used that bullet, but I do load for the 7X57, and I've found that H 414 is almost always the best powder choice for this cartridge, for bullets up to 175 grains anyway. Maybe with bullets this heavy H4831 or H4350 might give better results.

I looked up the Hodgdon data, and what MuskegMan gives above is correct.

Bill, I found two boxes at a local gun show, and just this week found one additional box online at Widener's Reloading. They only had one box left in-stock.
