I've had good luck with Nosler Partition bullets in several rifles, but haven't tried the Swift A-Frames yet. They would seem to be based on the same principle. How do the two compare in terms of expansion, penetration, and weight-retention on game? The A-Frames look a little sturdier from their pictures, but has this been the case on game? ______________________________ The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. - Bertrand Russell

IMO, they are similar but different. The Nosler has a more frangible front section which it sheds quickly, the A-frame does not. I believe the Swifts are bonded fore and aft. They both work extremely well, but for my taste, on dangerous game, I prefer the Swift. But, if all I had were partitions, I'd use em! DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) That makes sense, Lee. My recollection is that the Nosler Partitions end up retaining roughly 2/3 of their weight, with the front core usually lost. If the both cores of the Swifts are bonded, I'd expect them to retain more than 2/3 of their weight. ______________________________ The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. - Bertrand Russell

If I recall correctly, when we recovered a 300 grain Swift 375 from my giraffe, it was a perfect mushroom and weighed 278 grains. This was a broadside shot and the bullet was just under the skin on the off side. Same load used by a friend on two buff had similar results. I used 175gr A-frames in a 280 rem on zebra, kudu, gemsbock and impala and never recovered a bullet as all were pass-thrus so no recovered weights there. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) Lee, did you use the same loading data with the Swifts as with the Noslers? I've read that the Swifts may require lighter powder charges to keep pressures safe. ______________________________ The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. - Bertrand Russell

Ive used both extensively on game and I guess I prefer the Nosler as it opens up faster and still penetrates more than enough..Its the bullet by which all others are judged by for sure.. The swift always works perfectly as designed, it forms a smooth round ball with a hump behind it. Because its smooth and round, it does not kill quickly in many cases and results in tracking jobs at times, but never lost anything and it never went more than a 100 yards with decent blood trails, This was the reasoning behind the Sirrocco.. The A-frame is a very good and better buffalo, Hippo, bullet than a PG bullet IMO... The NOsler is like a fan blade and very destructive internally and sometimes loses all its petals, but they do a lot of damage flying around inside and animal while the base just keeps going and going...Its a grand bullet.
