I've looked quite a few places for what these letters stand for ...

Yeah, I know - Blind Magazine and Hinged Floorplate ... but what words are being substituted?

Also ... is it possible to modify - use a BDL barreled action in an ADL stock?

Yes, it is possible. ADL magazine must be modified (shortened) to work in a BDL. Most BDL magazines don't have the tab at the rear for the small machine screw like ADL's, but this is really irrelevant for converting. Spring & follower are the same on the ADL & BDL, I am pretty sure.

George Gardner modified/machined a few Rem 700 ADL magazine boxes for me not too long ago - I think he gets somewhere between 5&10 dollars, including shipping.

Don't have a clue as to what the abbreviations 'ADL' & 'BDL' stand for.

ADL = A Grade Deluxe
