17 hornet primer pockets I cannot get CC1 or federal 205 primers to fit, unless I ream out the pockets these are all once fired Hornady 17 cal. hornet. I don;t know if it is safe to ream out pockets. I have heard it done to 223's.

Rather than Ream the pockets, I use the Dillon Primer Pocket Swage. It does not remove any brass,it forces it out and into the right size.
you can do several hundred cases in an hour.
Been using mine since they first came out.

Yes you can safely ream them out if necessary. We ream out, or swage, .223s (5.56), to remove the crimp.

I've both reamed and swaged small primer pockets(not at the same time on the same brass. haha) and procedure either works great.

Depending on how you're set up to do it, either style can be time-efficient once you get going.

Thank you for the info. I have to ream out the primer pocket on all of those 17 Hornet cases. You would think a good brass like Hornady you would not have to.

Are you sure they are not "crimped" like military?

Some Hornady 350 Legend and 308 Win cases are, so ya never know what they have done to the Hornet.

I believe Hornady gets their brass from Star Line. I have bought thousands of Star Line brass and every time there's a case or two head stamped "Hornady"....

I have used the Rem 6-1/2 and 5-1/2 in the Hornady .17 Hornet and .22 Hornet brass with no problems seating primers. I get better accuracy with the 5-1/2, a small pistol primer. You are igniting roughly 10-12 grains of powder, which is more like a handgun cartridge.
