just bought my 2nd weatherby (Vangaurd)
it will shoot pretty consistant less than 1" groups at 100 yrds
My weatherby mark v (jap) cosistant 1 1/4 and less at 100.
I had my hands all over the RUM but I got the vangaurd wby, well I gave my boy the vanGaurd for his B-day.
How is the Rum? I wonder if I should have a late Christmas and pic up the Rum?
The last 5 saturdays I have been working on loads, have shot approx 80 groups, have did many 5/8-1" groups from both weatherbys, the vangaurd defantly has the edge.would the rum do better? (I think it would personally because of no free bore) Thanks guys

I have owned both the Weatherby rifles and a custom built 300 RUM so my opinion will be slightly squewed. As far as factory rifles go, I have found Weatherby's to be some of the most accurate factory out-of-the-box rifles I have ever owned. There are many Remington owners who will swear the same about their 700's.

Having said that, the 300 RUM is an amazing cartridge. I owned a factory accumark in 30-378 prior to this and I am happy I made the switch. The Ultra provides everything the WBY did but at a cheaper price. Liked the 300 RUM so much that a 375 RUM is on the way.

Not sure why the other 2 guys are beating their heads but what the heck.
If I had to "read into" what you asked I would think you are saying are you more likely to get a shooter out of a RUM in a remington rifle or a 300 wby made by weatherby.
My response would be the remington (and I own alot of weatheries). My weatherbies are good shooters but if it were me taking a chance on the two ideas above I would take my chance believing the remington will be the better shooter.

How about me throwing a monkey wrench in this thread.

CZ Ulitimate Hunting Rifle.

The CZ Ultimate Hunting Rifl e (UHR) is a new CZ 550 based rifl e in .300 Winchester Magnum that comes in at 8 lbs, and includes a minute of angle accuracy guarantee to 1000 yards. By maintaining quality control standards unheard of in the industry, the Ultimate Hunting Rifl e delivers a level of accuracy formerly only available from high-end custom rifle smiths.

Yikes--at $3150 list price I might just buy 10 savage stevens 300 win mags at 7 lbs and keep the tack driver and sell off the other 9!!! But I'm sure that CZ is a nice piece of equipment.

Kraky, there beating their heads to get them to work!Interesting that you prefer the Remington despite the fact that you own more than one Weatherby. How many Remingtons do you own?Are they good shooters?

FWIW--I have one remington bolt in a 25-06 and it is a tack driver. Not too many complaints on my Weatherbies--I own 4 jap built and they are all very good shooters. The 5th is an american made Ultra light and it has been a problem gun but I think things are getting worked out on that one. I also have some friends with rem 700's and all are very good shooters.
My basis for what I said re the remington is also the fact that I visit alot of forums. I see so many good reports on accuracy on the 300 rum in remington guns and hardly ever see a post that says "help me sort this out"! I still see a fair amount of posts of problems getting weatherbies to shoot. I know we're all supposed to go off of FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE about the quality of rifles but hey....if you were going to buy a car and thought two models were pretty equal but you read "glowing" reports on one model and "sketchy" reports on the other.....which would you buy??
