I just bought a box of Berger VLD 6mm 95 gr MATCH GRADE bullets. In measuring the first 8 I found bullet length to vary by .018. The next 5 I measured gave the same results with none of them being the same length. Out of curiosity I measured some Noslers, Hornady's and even Speers. None of them varied more than .003". How can these thing possibly be loaded accuratly with this much variation? What am I missing? Thanks Frank

how you measuring? end to end or from the base to the ojive?
the vld are ragged on the ends most long range shooters will trim the end of the bullet to achieve a desired flat clean pointed end, helps the bullet to fly streighter. should not see much change in base to ojive.

You may or may not know about a little device called Davidson Comparator which will measure from the ogive vs base to point of bullet. Extrusions are difficult to maintain same length due to elasticity of material as in copper when mfg. projectiles/bullets. Sinclair sells a "nut" with different calibers on each facet which will work for you quite well. I have some experience with VLD's and I always found seating them very near or in the rifling gave me the best results. Load accordingly!!

I wouldn't agonize too much about a little variation in length. Berger bullets have a good reputation for accuracy.

I shot another 3 shot group with the same load as pictured. It measured a little over 0.4 inches from edge to edge (not center to center). I didn't trim the ends of the bullets either.

Please allow me to apologize for my ignorance. I bought the Hornady LNL OAL guage and the LNL bullet comparator. Now I know why the Bergers are the better bullet. Measured from the ogive the Bergers were no more than +or - a grand. The noslers and speers that measured good from the point to base were all over the place when measured from the ogive.Berger bullets my sincere appologies for open ing my mouth before my brain was in gear. Thanks a million everyone that helped me out on this one.Frank
