AA2230 vs AA2230-C in .222 and/or .223

I just picked up 9# of AA2230 for use in my Remington 788 .222 and my CZ 527 .223. The original owner of the 788 sent me a bunch of load data along with the rifle and he said he was getting groups in the .3's using 24.8gr of AA2230, a 40gr B.T., and Remington 7-1/2's. So about a month ago I picked up a bunch of the 2230-C that Natchez had on sale hoping it would give similar results. The 2230-C produced groups between .5 and .75 for me, but I was using 40gr Vmax's and CCI 400 primers (I can't find any Remington 7-1/2's locally). Anyway, to make a long story short, I found a guy selling 9#'s of regular 2230 for $100.00 shipped, so I bought it. I'm mainly wondering if anyone out there has used both 2230 and 2230-C, and if so, what differences, if any, did you notice?

One other thing, the orginal owner of the 788 said the load he was using of 24.8gr of 2230 was a "compressed" load, but I can't see how it could be. I weighed both powders and they weigh exactly the same and they appear to be identical in shape and size. The most accurate load so far in my .222 has been 26.5gr of 2230-C, which is just barely started into the neck. Looks to me like the bullet would have to be seated awful deep for 24.8gr to be "compressed". Is my thinking of what a "compressed" load is flawed? Or should I assume (ASS-U-ME!) the load data is wrong? By the way, I printed load data from the AA site, so I'd know for sure of the max charges.

I just started using 2230-C in an AR serice rifle in 223 and can report excellent results with both 69 and 80 grain bullets. Accurate says to use the 2230 load data but seems to admit that 2230-C is a touch slower. A friend at the range today said he has used both and got the same velocities. Incidently, I was shooting 23.5 grains with an 80 grain Nosler @2.450 OAL and that is NOWHERE near filling the case. The ground was still covered with snoe and the sun bright, so much so that I could not keep my other eye open, after 10 rounds from position I figured I was wasting ammo and went to check my guess at a zero. Quite a surprise to find a nice round X-ring sized group that could have used 1/4 min up and 1/2 min. right, I'm buying more of this stuff.

Buster, Get my best groups with 24.9 AA2230 and a 52 grain custom match bullet. Have a 1-10 twist with a t36 weaver and can hit golf balls all day long at 200 yards. Have fun!
