I am looking for any help you all can give in regards to what would be a good bullet weight to start with for a 7mm-08. I am interested in accuracy for right now and will eventually work up a load for hunting later.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Pat

With the minimum case capacity of the 708 case I would use nothing heavier than a 150 gr. and probably try the Speer 130 gr. because it is a fine game bullet for deer and antelope...The 140 Nosler for all other animals...These bullets should shoot as well and any other accuracy wise.

Alaskan, I shoot the 140gr Nosler BT for accuracy and the 140gr Nosler partition for deer & black bear in the timber. I use Rem 7mm08 cases, Hodgden Varget powder and Fed210 primers to set em off. My little Rem Mod 7 will average around .75" with the BT, a little more with the partition. No scope adjustment needed between both loads. You will be amazed at the killing ability of the Nosler partition bullet in this little round. sure-shot

It may well be that the 160 grain bullets (or those relatively close) are the best overall for the bore. Remington did load the 154 Hornady in their "long range" ammo, don't know if they still do. No less a luminary than Jack O'Connor thought the 7x57 was best served with 160s.

My favorite load are 120gr Sierra sp with 41gr IMR4064 (2650f/s). This is a mild load but is has an exceptional accuracy in my rifle. I use it for target shooting (best five shots during competition is ,44" at 100m). I use this load for hunting fox, beaver, roedeer. For larger game(=moose) I use 160gr Barnes X with 50gr Norma MRP (2600f/s).
I also got good accuracy with Sierra Mtch 150gr with 35.5gr of Viht. N150 but since I have not tested it during competition it can be just luck

Obs! this loads are developed in my rifle not yours, Check the manuals before starting

Good shooting/

Alaskan -
47 W760 or 48 H4350/WLR primer/R-P Case/145 Speer flatbase spitzer for deer, antelope, etc..; same with 145 Grand Slam for larger game.

Numerous groups in numerous rifles with the above combos have run in the 1" and under range, depending on the rifle; velocity is around 2800 FPS.

Good luck,
