JD,

I had one in my mitts the other day and the Forester was telling me which .358 bullets he was using in his 9x57. He mentioned something about which weight & Hornady worked better than Speer, ect. - I'll have to ask again. I'll be visitng with him in two weeks.

Cheers,

No they are not, slug the rifle before you use .358 bullets.

358" dia will work fine, I've owned several and had good results with standard US bullets. Usual 'start off low' cautions apply, of course.

I've owned at least a dozen commercial Mauser sporters in 9x57 over the years, and shot them all with both .356" and .358" bullets. I did not find any appreciable difference caused by which diameter bullet I happened to use.

I preferred my 9x57 rifles to any of my various .358 Winchester rifles, including my pre-'64 Winchester .358 FW. That extra 6 m/m of case length can come in handy sometimes.

Even though I haven't had a 9x57 for about 25 years now, I have kept a couple of hundred original Berdan-primed cases just in case I ever run across and buy another.
