A friend gave me a can full of mixed .223 brass. Could someone tell me the manufacture and what is good and what is junk. The headstamps are:

W C C 8 5
C J 8
C J 0
L C 7 5
L C 7 1

Thanks, H.H.

Horn Harvester, I'd sort the brass by stamping - you know that already, I imagine, the LC stampings I believe are military stuff. LC stands for Lake City. WCC, I assume is Winchester. Not sure about the other lots. Check them all for crimping around the primer pocket. I usually have to ream them out a bit, before seating new ones.

I use a lot of mil brass and have found it to be very good. As previously stated, LC is Lake City brass, which is excellent. The two numbers following letters is the year of manufacture.
WCC is Winchester brass. Follow the advice previous, check for cartridge length, and you'll have no problems.
