I am new to this forum. I had been reloading an ounce and an eight of shot, but got tired of the recoil and just switched to one ounce. I wanted to get opinions on a good low pressure powder. I am currently using 700x. Thank you.

700X is as good as any for one-ounce loads. Consult the latest Lyman Shotshell loading handbook for exact recipes.

700x is pretty good, really. I usually use "Tightwad", which burns a little faster, and is a little cheaper. 17 grains of TW works in most hulls with most wads and primers, and $81 / 8 lb jug is pretty easy to take. As clean or cleaner than 700X, and made in the US. Prolly the only drawback with TW is that it isn't very bulky, so your crimps may be dished a little. HTH, Dutch. Consider putting a limb-saver recoil pad on your shotgun 1 1/8 oz loads should not recoil so much as to be uncomfortable with a good recoil-pad. Welcome to the forum and good shooting. Swede --------------------------------------------------------- NRA Life Member

Swede, I'm not recoil shy, and I'm all for letting them have all the shot they need to break. That said, after 200 or 300 rounds, 1 oz loads @ 1150 are a whole lot easier to take than 1 1/8th loads @ 1200. For sporting, I use 85% or more 1 oz loads, with the rest either 1 1/8th of 7.5's or 7/8th's of 9's. FWIW, Dutch. Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog.
