JoeM, I'm having a little trouble getting your point, here. As I understand it, Midway is lowering their prices and charging for the shipping. It doesn't seem so bad, to me! Let me give you an example of Midway's "old" pricing... Midway's May 2001 mailer advertises a Jewell trigger for a Remington 700 for $224.99. This price includes "free shipping". Sinclair's 2001A catalog lists the same trigger for $218.00, plus 5.95 shipping for a total of $223.95. The math sez Sinclair's cheaper. I've seen this all down the line with Midway! Whatever I'm in the market for, I can almost always find it for less somewhere else, including paying the shipping! I'm all for seeing some hard numbers from Midway before I condemn them for changing their pricing and shipping policy. I'm not trying to turn this into a pi**ing contest, I'm just willing to give them a chance to show me something. Regards, George.

Get an old catalog and compare the prices in it to the ones in a new catalog. I looked at Sierra bullets and many of the ones I use have dropped $3.50 a box. My shipping cost should also drop since I'm not to far away and now I don't have to pay for shipping to California or Maine.

Midway has always shipped any order no matter how small to customers with shipping included. This was an extremely generous service considering that many customers ordered small quantities and the shipping was more than their margin in their goods. Now they are cutting their margin more and charging for shipping. I have compared their prices with all the others that I have and they still are withing the ball park and if you order more than one or two items (above $40) you will save even more money. I calculated one of my previous orders and compared the price I paid to the current price. I put it into the on-line order system and would have saved over $10 dollars under the current policy. Shipping has always been in the price. Now they have taken it out so the individuals that make an order over the minimum with benefit. You can still make small (under $40 orders) but they will charge $4 for small order and shipping. I will continue to do almost all my ordering from Midway as they have always been prompt and provided the items I request. Steve

Well I guess it depends. Yes, on bigger items, or on large quantities of small items, (I did take before/after catalogs and look at Burris scopes, for example) their new policy will save some money. BUT, they always had a lot of small items that my local dealer did not carry, and they would drop those in the mail for free, as well. For example, a little collet for an RCBS bullet puller, by the time you add the small order fee, and shipping, will nearly double in cost. In Larry's letter that I got he stated that this type of stuff was not a money maker, and I am truly sorry to hear that, and I confess I do not know what the easy answer is. I don't know how to quantify customer loyalty., but they blew a bunch of it with me. I was content to pay 10-15 percent more for some things for the convenience of always having whatever I needed at the ready, without the hassle of having to calculate shipping charges, or having the "small order fee" blow the cost of something sky high. So in light of Midway's decision to become "like their competition", I figure I will just go support their competition, because in terms of companies that use a standard business methodology, there are better ones out there. For example, Sinclair charges a flat rate shipping fee, so at least you know up front that whatever you need will cost 5.95 more than list. You dont have to waste time on the phone to customer service, just to get a shipping quote. Their customer service staff is much more knowledgeable as well, IMHO. ------------------ [This message has been edited by JoeM (edited 06-02-2001).]

You have to give it to Midway when it comes to there websight. It allows you to see a photo of what you are getting. Navigating there site is better than the competitions' site that I have went to. I still think there prices are decent, although some are cheaper on a thing or two. I am going to try to make a big order or two for things my local gunshops just do not have.

Midway, I tried Midsouth they messed up the order and they didnt want to do anything about it, just resend it. I had payed for 3 day but they can take up to 2 days to process an order. I went back to Midway, they have good prices and they great website, as well as having somthing like the midway items that are cheaper than others out there. I have been told that loc stock and barrel is a good place to shop as well, I have order one or two small things from them but they have prices that are all a few dollars more than Midway. Shipping is a must and if I live closer why should I pay for for some one else shipping cost?? just because they live farther away?

I've bought shooting and reloading supplies from both Midway and from Graf & Sons. <www.grafs.com> Graf & Sons has always been slightly less expensive, even including the shipping charges, and with some things (e.g. Leupold QR mounts) it was significantly less. Midway doesn't sell powder, so you have to get that elsewhere anyway -- Graf does sell it. But, in my experience, Midway has been quicker in their shipping, and a bit more reliable in order-filling. Midway's special sales are sometimes genuinely special.

Here is a sample of the old and new pricing of some items that Midway sells. [QUOTE]Wilson Cartridge Headspace Gauges; old price $22.99, new price $16.49, a difference of $6.50. Sierra .308 150 SBT; old price $18.99, new price, $15.49, a difference of $3.50. I like the new pricing policy.

Guys I like ordering from midway as well as any but most items I can find at Midsouth shooter's supply cheaper than most anywhere. One outfit did me a turn that I really didn't like( Can't remember the name of the outfit) They charged a low price but if you ordered with a call and credit card they charged an additional 5 %. That is not muchif you buy one lb of powder but this was a scope. The 5% ended up almost 25 bucks which I could have found it cheaper elsewhere. Nothing mentioned about it until I recieved the scope. Let the buyer beware. "D"

I learned a lesson about express shipping.I designated 2nd day on several items that I ordered. They never came 2nd day.I checked the shipping dates, and they went out on time.I called the local service, and was informed that they don't have second day in my area.Only Fed ex has this service.not UPS or US Mail. Now i just do regular ground. 1geejay www.shooting-hunting.com

I just did some reading in the new MIDWAY Catalog too, and I will remain a loyal Midway customer. They have ALWAYS treated me the way I wanted to me treated by a mail order company. The usually have on hand what I want, and it always arrives sooner than expected.
