After sizing 100 or so 243 cases, I notice the "too much lube wrinkles on the shoulders of 20-30 cases". Do you think I could go ahead and load these to get the wrinkles out? Also need some help with 140gr Accubond and SST in my 270. Have tried IMR4831 & IMR7828SSC without much success.(well maybe 1" on the SST and 1.5" on the accubond.) The hornady 130 & 150 spire point with the flat base will both make .25" with these same powders. Thanks

BTW, the rifle is a browning BBR with 22" tube.

wrinkles will not hurt anything just doesnt look good. I would load normal and shoot. What rifle are you using for the 270. About moa is all you can expect from the 140's sometime you can tweek the loads and do better I use H414 or imr 4064 with groups aversging just under moa @ 100yrds. Dave

I'm sorry. The BBR is a .270 and the .243 is a '65 Model 70 Win with a 22" barrel. BTW, this is my first attempt at 243. Would the H414 or IMR4064 work, or should I stick to the IMR 4831 for 95-100gr bullets?

Lube dents are unsightly, but otherwise are not harmful to accuracy. Clean off any remaining lube and shoot them as you would any other ammunition. As for the 140s in your 270 -maybe your barrel is trying to tell you "hey, I don't like boat tail bullets." My advice would be to clean the barrel of any copper/powder residue and start the experiment over.

I have found when loading for my .270 featherweight using the 140 grain NAB that it likes from 53.2 to 53.9 grains of IMR4831 for best accuracy. With this load it will shoot consistent 0.6 to 0.8 inch groups at 100 meters. Also, the WLRM primer gives me best accuracy but not the best velocity. I cannot load higher than 54.0 grains of IMR4831 with the magnum primer without showing pressure signs. I am able to load to above 55 grains with a standard large rifle primer. This loading gives me velocities that range from 2810 to 2860 fps - (chronoed) depending on the lot # of IMR4831. I have also found that with this particular rifle the Accubond needs a good "kick in the pants" - best accuracy being obtained in this rifle with near maximum loads.

My Browning really likes 57-58gr of H4831SC and a Federal GMM215 magnum primer behind 140gr Accubonds. Wouldn't do better than MOA with LR primers. Switched to the Mags and the groups were cut in half. I use H4350 or RL19 for the 95gr .243s. 4064 works great with the 70grs but I couldn't get good results with it behind the larger bullets.

browning a-bolt 270win 140gr accubonds h4831sc at 58gr. fed 210 consistent .5in groups Try h4831sc, start low and work up. play with c.o.l, it will make a difference. alot of people like rl 22 in 270win. I'd try playing with C.O.L with the powders you have first. If not satisfied, then switch powders.

Ok, I'm gonna be blunt... what on earth possessed you to use 7828 in a 270win? (Oh lord... someone has been reading and BELIEVING the Nosler manual Yes, Nosler shows 7828 and H4831SC, but.... The "go to" propellant in the 270win has traditionally been a powder with a speed similar to IMR4350 or W760, though people have good results with H4350, AA3100 and RL19. 4831? No. My brother's 270 liked the 140gr Ballistic tips, but not with IMR4350 (a 270 that even Jack O'Connor would hate) I never tried H4350, but I had a can of RL19 on hand at the time (was using it in my Swede which turned out to not like it with the bullets I as using) But the rifle really shines (.35") with RL19. I wouldn't try anything slower like 4831 or 7828. you MIGHT want to expirement with RL22, but that can go either way... (MY brother's rifle didn't like RL22, but my uncle's rifle did, go figuire!) Amusingly my Swede likes IMR4350, so the powder I bought for one rifle worked in the other and Vice-Versa... What's worse is that my brother's Remington loves W760 while my uncle's Winchester M70 prefers IMR4350 an ongoing string of proofs of universal perversity. If I ever understand it all I'll know I've lost my sanity. AD If I provoke you into thinking then I've done my good deed for the day! I must disagree with Mr. DeGroot. 4831 (H or IMR) is absolutely a go-to powder in the 270 with any bullet in the 130/140/150 weight range. Not every rifle will like them but most will. I've loaded for six different 270s in the past 20 years and every one of them shot well with at least one hunting weight bullet and H4831. This is not to say that other powders don't work, just that 4831 almost always does work in a 270.
