Hi, Does anyone has a load not too hot for the Rigby? just a hunting one, it will be use in water buffs, I'm not a velocity fan. What IMR powder you reccomend for this cartdrige? I've nosler partitions, Horandy's round noses and Barnes solids. Norma cases. Any suggestions? Thanks L

I don't use IMR powders as they are not available in France. If you use VihtaVouri powders try the N165. If you use Federal Cases, Federal 215 primers and 86.9 grains of N165 you will probably get around 2100 feet per second, and this is quite mild. The manufacturer will say that 96.6 grains is the maximum load for 2300 feet per second. I don't actually get these results in my rifles with my components but they are a good starting point. Of course, your particular cases, primers, barrel length, etc. may give different results. Do you have a way to measure the velocity of your reloads? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Lorenzo, I looked at the Hogdon web page for you and here is what they put on their web site as a maximum load: For 400 grain bullets H4350, 100 gr. charge, 2414 fps H4831, 106 gr. charge, 2422 fps Try less powder if you want a milder load. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Lorenzo: I've had fantastic success with my 24" Ruger RSM using 90.2gr of IMR 4350, Fed 215 primers and Norma brass. It's not the hottest load out of the Hornady book, but I shoot 400gr Swifts, Hornadys and 410gr Hornady solids to the same POI. MV of about 2375 fps in 95 plus degree weatehr and NO pressure signs. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

Lorenzo, Great question and since a good friend just recently purchased a .416 Rigby we will be starting to load for it as well. The only issue is that with @ 100 grain loads your can of 4350 will disappear very quickly! Cheers, Gerry Cheers, Number 10

The classic load that duplicates factory ballistics in most rifles is 96 grains of your favorite flavor of 4831 and a Federal 215 Primer. Norma brass is best. dart
