For powder and primers I use Powder Valley.

For bullets, whoever has them on sale, Midsouth, Midway, Graf's, Wideners, Natchez, Nosler Proshop, etc.

Ya really have to look around.....I used to buy most everything from www.midsouthshooterssupply.com

but they discontinued carrying Swift bullets.....and while they might be a bit more at midway I can combine orders there with other things.....so I have moved some buying to Midway....even though I usually look at midsouth first.

Here's a place to look

www.gunstop.com

A minneapolis company.....great guy there....

Next time you're in Minneapolis look them up....

vapadog ----- Thanks for the "gunstop" site, it looks very interesting. I just ordered one of their catalogs. I always use Midsouth because it is only an hour from home and I can order and then go by and pick it up and save shipping, which is real important on powder, etc. Good shooting.

I normaly don't use MidWay or Grafs because they are in Missouri ((I pay sales tax and shipping)) so they have to be 7% cheaper than the other guys to even be even.

That said there are still times when they offer sale items that I order from them.

Shop around.....you will find that no dealer has the lowest price on all the items you want.

I find myself useing Natches more than most though.

Why do avoid Midway? If you don't mind me asking

I'm not sure why others do, but since Midway does not necessarily stock everything you order in THEIR own warehouse, your order may come from two or more places. I've had the unpleasant experience of ordering a big order of primers and powder and having it come from 3 places and was charged $60 instead of $20 hazmat fees to say nothing of the increased shipping charges, exactly what I was trying to avoid. They're pretty much last on my list. Larry, if you are reading this, you'd be well advised to let your customers know that is going to happen before they get the bill........

I was doing $2k in biz/year with Midway until May 2001 when Potterfield posted a pic of himself with antique guns going to Africa while they started to charge for shipping.

I avoid Midway because:
1) The shipping is too high
2) The fee is too high
3) They won't give me V code prices
4) Whoever answers the phone knows nothing
5) Return their mistakes on my time and my nickel
6) Things that can be sent via the mail, do not, because there is not enough profit on the shipping.

They have done just fine without my business, so they know to keep some customers happy.

There used to be a place called Glenrock Components and I did a lot of business with them years ago, nice people, good inventory and good prices. When visiting Casper I stopped in once, a real mom and pop operation. I haven't recieved a catalog in many years??? Anybody else heard of them?

You might also try Lock, Stock and Barrel in Valentine, Nebraska. They shipped me the wrong sizing die once, so I mailed it back and they sent me the proper die. In a few days I had a check from them for the postage. It was a small amount, so I did not even ask them about it. They seem anxious to do a good job.

Right now componants are hard to find !
I have been stalking up on various brands of primers , beacuse I am having a hard time finding federal 210Ms.
I managed to get 100 each of Lapua and winchester .308 brass, and powder is still hit and miss.
I don't like to buy powder on the web beacuse shipping charges are big.
been looking fo a couple boxes of 165 grain sierra HPgame kings fo awhile now but sierra,s of anystripe is hard to find.
Do they have a millitary contrct to fill ?
I hear federal does for primers , and that means we wait a while.

Do what I did, get a C&R License and you will get dealer prices from Midway. It was the best $30.00 I ever spent! I saved over $200.00 on one Leupold scope I purchased from them alone. If you buy locally you will pay sales tax. If you buy from Midway you'll pay shipping. Here in Arizona we have a high sales tax, (8+%), so one cancels out the other.

I think Graf & Sons has free shipping.

I wouldn't know for sure because I drop by on the way to get grocerys. Big Grin

Billt,

Is there a set % that you save with Midway if you are a dealer or does it vary?

It varies from product to product. Most of the time it's pretty substancial and adds up. With their dealer discount I haven't been able to beat their prices on Leupold scopes anywhere, even Brunos Shooters Supply. Bill T.

1 more question (should have put it in the 1st post) does Midway have an annual sales volume ($XX/year) that you have to meet in order to obtain/maintain a dealers license?

No. All you have to do is send them a copy of your C&R License. That's it. After I did that they sent me a copy of their Master Dealer Catalog, and I received the Dealer Monthly Flyer every month since. I just placed an order today for a couple of sets of rings and bases, and a few other items and saved over 15%. Pretty hard to beat. Bill T.

Bill,

Thanks for the information. I'll be getting in touch with Midway on Friday.

I have been getting bullets from Midway. They are almost out of most of the blemished pistol bullets that they had. Still cheaper than what I have been seeing some places for non-blemished.
