I have a Rem 700VLS in 260Rem and want to load long range ammo for the gun, by long range Im talking about 500 yards. I plan on using 308 lapua brass necked down to 260, 140 or 142 gr MatchKing Sierra bullets, RL19 powder, and CCI bench rest primers. I will be using Redding Competition die set. I was told by a guy I work with, to use the Lapua brass and neck it down to have extra material left to neck turn the brass and not have a sloppy fit in a factory rife and then cut the extractor rims to a uniform dimension. He also said I dont need to do all the other bench rest case prep with this rifle. Mark

Do the guys on the team use the remington brass or do they get another brand and neck it up or down to 264. Have some remington brass on hand and am considering some Norma or Lapua brass. Don't know which one and wether to get the 243 or 308 case. Advice would be welcomed. Also CCI match or Federal Gold Medal primers. Thanks.

Call John at Master Class Sports in Brookfield, CT on Tues., Wend. or Thur. If I see him at the range Monday I will ask him but your better off calling. The answers should raise more questions. His 260 is in an AR-10.

I am 99% certain your barrel will be a 1 in 9 twist, which IMHO is not enough twist in a 260 to properly stabilze the long 140 gr. class match bullets. A 1 in 8 twist barrel is the best choice by far at 260 velocities for the heavier bullets. However, a 1 in 9 twist does very well with the 123 gr. Lapua Scenar. Try somewhere around 46.5 to 47 gr. of RL-19 on top of a Federal 210M primer. Velocity should run around 2900 fps. The 123 Scenar likes to be seated .005" into the lands on my rifle. That load will work very well at 1000 yards. As far as brass, I use Remington brass and I don't turn the necks. I just sort through enough of it to get brass with a uniform neck thickness. Truly, I was surprise at how good it was. I got a little over 300 pieces of match quality brass out of 500. Maybe I just go lucky with a good lot of brass from Remington. Definetly weigh the brass, debur the flash hole and uniform the primer pockets. Hope this helps some. Shoot Safe, Shoot Straight.....RiverRat
