So what's all the buzz with this IMR 7828 stuff? I'm building a 300WSM long-range piece and am casting about for the best powder-- clue me in, please.

H1000 works for me but I only shoot 200 grain bullets in my 300 Win mag.

I like Winchester's WMR. With a 200 gr. bullet (Speer Hot-core) I get 2950 FPS and .75" groups from a Winchester M70 Wallyworld special. (Looks like a Black Shadow, but no floorplate.)
My big bitch is Winchester in their illustrious wisdom dropped the powder. A pox on them. thumbdown

With current technology, Reloader 25 or MRP-2 are the best available powders, but Retumbo looks very promising.

My esteemed gunsmith recommends Hodgdon Short Cut H4831 in the 300WSM. He knows guns...

I have shot three different .300 Winny's and have 7 Elk hunting buddies who shoot it. We have tried every powder under the sun, including all the above. RL-22 cannot be beat for speed and accuracy in our neck of the woods in Ky and Colorado. thumb Good shooting.

What's about 178gr A-Max(Hornady) in front of 80-82 gr of Hodgdon 1000 and Federal 215 ?
Fast and accurate load ! Quite nice for long shots.

For a excellent 300 Winchester hunting load use a good 180 bullet, take your pick and Reloader 22.

The 300 win mag can get finicky once bullet weight drops below 165 grain from my experience on only two 300 win mags.
