I'am fairly new to reloading but take great pride in reloading. I have recently acquired a .270 Gibbs but I do not have any reloading information on this rifle nor have I been able to find any info. If anyone can be of assistance it would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

The .270 Gibbs is an '06 based improved cartridge which, unlike the Ackley series, has the shoulder moved forward to maximize case capacity. Simply start with "maximum" .270 Winchester loads using powders on the slower end of the burning spectrum (H4831 or IMR 7828 being very good choices) and work up from there. Gibbs loads should use around 5% or so more powder than .270 Winchester loads, but remember, each rifle is an individual and should be treated as such.

Maxwell, there is a book by one Roger Stowers called Gibbs Cartridges and Front Ignition Loading Technique. (Wolfe Publishing Company, 1991). It has data for ALL Gibbs cartridges, from the .240 through the .338 Gibbs, including metrics. I recommend you get one!!

Good luck at finding that book. They have been out of print for some time. I checked with Wolf 2 years ago and they couldn't help me.

Thanks for the information, I did not realize it would be so hard to get information on this rifle.

Is Gibbs a large manufacture of wildcat rifles? Are they still in business? If so does anyone know how I can contact them to get a more information on the rifle history.

This site is great. Since I have logged in last week I have really enjoyed the knowledge and the help that you all are willing to share.

Thanks
Max
