SmilerI have a mini-14 and like so many of them they will not hit a bull in the butt at 100 yards. Was wondering if anyone had one with a bull barrel and how it shoots.

No bull barrel but I got my mini-30 to shoot. First thing I did was bed it, retorque the gas block screws and have the trigger done. Bedding it took away the fliers and retorquing the gas block screws tightened everything up. Of course handloads did the rest. Here is a site all about accurizing the mini's. Some real shooten mini's here.

It's quite a job to put a heavy barrel on a mini 14 as the action rod etc. has to be modified as well as the handguard, stock etc. I haven't had any experience accurizing one, most don't shoot for shit, I'd get a Bushmaster or Rock River AR15 instead.

I'll second what jstevens said.

Back in the pre-internet days I tried to get one to shoot like I thought it should. In the end it is quicker, simpler, and cheaper to get a quality AR15.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

I have a heavy barrel on a mini chamber for 6x45 & like it alot. Yes the AR's will do better, but I like mini 14's there's a guy in odessa texas calls himself accuracy systems that did mine. I believe he charged me something like $400 to do the work & he guaranteed 1" or less groups. mine does 3/4" shooting 70 gr nosler BT's there's a couple guys out there saying they can put a harmonic balancer on the barrel & it gets better, but I have my doubts, the ruger barrel is just to cheap and the mini isn't put together that well. I took a bit of work on the trigger and beding to get the thing right, but now that it is, it's a lot of fun

The words "Ruger" and "Accuracy" should never be mentioned in the same sentence jump.

Good Luck!

Watch what you say! I have a 10/22 that will shoot .10 at fifty yards all day long, Reloader.

Of coures, it has a Hogue stock, Accuflite carbon barrel and Jewell trigger assembly. The only thing Ruger that's left is the receiver shell and bolt Wink.

You can also tune the barrel harmonics with a 2-pc split clamp. A lot of guys have found some of the muzzle brakes to also increase the accuracy level.
The gentlemen over at http://www.perfectunion.com have got a lot of mini tunning tricks there willing to share.

SmilerUnderstand the AR-15 being better. I had one with a bundle of goodies. It was a real good shooter. But I let a supposed friend who has a gun shop keep it as I traded it for some other things and then was to buy it back later. A few months later I ws ready to get it back and he had sold it along with everything after deafinely promising to keep it for me. I even checked a few weeks before to see if he still had it. He told me it was safe at his house-yeah right on #$#&^%)(***&^^^%$%$#. It would take $500.00 to get the mini like I want it. So will keep it for home defense if it will hit the front door when someone tries to come in.

The only reason I still have mine is I still have alot of ammo for it.

I have handloaded and tried a few different types of ammo and dont feel it is worth the trouble to accurize it.
On the otherhand it is veerry thumbreliable

SmilerYeah it is reliable as far as turning out a 40 round clip of ammo as fast as it can be shot. And I guess a few out of the 40 should hit the front door, or maybe a wild bull in ther butt at 50 yards!

One of the reasons I got my AR was I wanted something that could hit a basketball at 50 yards. My old Mini 14 couldn't hit (literally) a 8x8 target at 25 yards.

Sold it for the down payment on my wife's engagement ring. Then spent my bonus from work on an AR (which annoyed the soon to be Mrs.).

We had the basketball on had, and the mini was starting to anger me!

I prefer the RRA AR with the varmit barrel much more, but it is a bit more picky on what it likes to shoot.

There might be a reason it's hard to find a dedicated benchrest stock for a Mini.

Try 52 gr. Sierra Match Kings over H322, or H335, I got mine to group softball size or better for a 30 round mag at 100 YDS, with iron sights.

Interesting website. I have not had the Mini out much for the past few years...

I took my mini 14 blued rancher and accuraglass bedded basically the whole thing.I bedded the brace that the trigger assembly attaches to,the front lug, painted a layer under the slide shield and the U at the end where the front of the stock attaches and painted a thin coat every where else on the interior. I then attached the barreled action put the triger assembly on locked it down bungeed it real tight took the trigger assembly back out after a bit.. I let it dry then popped the barreled action out did a little sanding and cutting. I filed and emery clothed the U in the front til the stock slides on very freely and the trigger assembly locks the back down tight. I honed the trigger very lightly to smooth thimgs up and now she'll go 2 moa at 100 yards and NO FLIERS vs 5 moa and a wild one evry 5 shot or so...\ Best of all I got about 20 bucks and part of a weekend invested...
beer
It ain't a bench rest gun but it rides in my truck on my tractor 4 wheeler evrywhere takes a banging but just by having it all the time I've eliminated many of my problems. Wink
