Does anybody know the minimum and maximum flash hole diameters for a large rifle primer pocket. Thanks for the help.

About 2 months ago I asked what effect the size of the flash hole had. The reasons I asked were that the size for small primered rounds is the same or very close to large primer rounds. Also many many moons ago I use to redo Berdan 6.5 Carcano cases so I could use boxer primers. This left an oblong much over sized hole.I never had any trouble but the question was always in the back of my mind; What relativity does the size of the primer hole have on (for lack of better terminalogy) proper ignition? Is there a min and max diameter and why?Does it relate differenrtly to fast burning powders than it does to slow burning powders? Can the replies be backed up with evidence such as data? Never did get an answer. roger

.080 seems to be the standard in the USA,.079-.081 will catch most flash holes. WC

I thik the uniformity of the flash hole is more important than the size. I use a flash hole uniformer on all my brass.
