I just picked up some 130 gr TTSXs to try in an 18" barreled 308 Win.

With this barrel I want to minimize muzzle blast so I assume I'll need to lean toward the faster range of powders(?)

Any powder recommendations?

My first picks would be IMR 8208 XBR or IMR 4064.

For a fast powder, 11 grains of Blue Dot would get you started.

We shot loads of 308s and 7/08s loaded with WW748 powder for metallic silhouettes. Very consistant velocities. The trick is to use magnum primers.

Thanks all. I have a lot of 4064, Varget, and Benchmark on hand. Anyone got any loads for those? Not a lot of data out there for any but the Varget.

I have an old hogdon magazine that has some loads listed for the tsx
using 36 grains of imr4198, 38 grains of h4198, 44 grains of h4895 or 45 grains of imr 4895.

Its been rumored for years that fast burning powders get more velocity in short barrels..Guess they didn't have a chronograps, my Chrograph shows that to be wrong in every case..

Shoot whatever gives you the best accuracy and highest velocity..

WW-748, IMR-4064, and Varget have traditionally been the best powders in the .308 Win. in any barrel length..My all time favorite is a max load of WW-748 with most bullet weights, gives me great accuracy and high velocity.

I like Norma 203B/ RL-15 and a 150 grain Accubond. It's been my hunting load for years!
Very accurate out of my M 03 Mauser and Savage.
My load is 44 grains, Federal 210 match primer.
Moderate pressure. It fills the case and give around 2700 FPS.

I used that bullet from reduced to full power loads over H-4895 for my oldest grandson. My little Ruger only has 16.5" to work with but we got excellent accuracy through the whole spectrum of loads and 200yd one shot drop results from it.
