Almost 3200 fs with a full case...what's not to like??? I haven't had a 270 in over 40 years, but when I did I liked the 150 gr better...nowadays I would use the 140 gr and RL-17 pretty much exclusively, but each to his own... I liked the 7mm better because of bullet availability and heavier weights in those far away days and built/had several 280's and 284's, 7mm mags, 7x57, etc, I never understood the arguments between the .277 and .284, they BOTH are excellent calibers. I use lots of RL-17 in many cases/calibers in the '06 and slightly larger cases. I find it excellent and as accurate or better than many other powders of the same burn rate, usually at better pressure/velocity numbers. Check/email/call with Alliant if you haven't already done so...54 gr RL-17 with a Speer BTSP for 3136 fs in a 24" bbl...not bad at all. Any 4350, H4831, H414, Win 760 on the slower side and Varget, H380, and 4895 on the faster wide all will get you to 3200 fs very easy depending on various factors. Good luck. If you were closer to me, I would take it off your hands in a NY heartbeat. | |||
