Would someone please be able to run me a quick load simulation for the following three loads for the .585 Nyati; #1 145 gr of IMR 4350 & 650 gr woodleigh BP express. #2 150 gr of IMR 4350 & 650 gr woodleigh BP #3 155 gr of IMR 4350 & 750 gr woodleigh SN I am particularli interested in the pressure figures as wll as the velocity. Thank you in advance PC.

I doesn't have canned parrameters for that cartridge. It skips from .577/500 Magnun N.E. to 600 N.E. I am not good enough at operating the program to enter a caliber from scratch.

well, i added the 585 nyati to quickload using barnes's cartridge of the world as source (rather poor source IMHO). So, the following simulation results should be taken with the standard grain of salt, rather large, i might say. Quickload comparison of 585 nyati: Data from accuratereloading.com 585 nyati for imr4350, 23.5" barrrel, 750g Barnes Mono. solid Charge vel.(data) vel. (QL) P(psi) Load Den. 140g 2125 2072 34k 92% 150g 2240 2227 41k 99% 155g 2290 2305 46k 102% 156g 2310 2320 47k 103% For 650g Woodleigh SN, 145g xx 2110 29k 92% 150g xx 2187 32k 95% for the s341 data, quickload was 10% low on the velocity. ps. i checked and found a post that had "585 Nyati - (Bertram case) 187.3 - 184" case capacity, so if this is the case, then pressure sim out to be about 35% higher!! than listed above. Thanks for that Steve, can you explain to me what the for example the 34k figure means and also the % figures. Excuse my ignorance. Thanks.

Thanks steve I figured it out, now from this and of the threads that have talked about this issue, then are these pressure (psi) figures alright in the Brno 602 action I read in a thread that the large diameter cases put immense pressure on the actions. I have mostly used 150 grains of AR2209 behind the 650 gr woodleigh, AR 2209 is about 5 grains slower than IMR 4350 so I equate my charge to be producing similar pressures as the IMR 145 gr load with the 650 gr bullet 29K psi. I am getting no pressure signs that I can visulise with this load. My mate tested a couple of loads with 155 gr AR2209 behind woodleigh 750 gr with Bertram case and had a sticky bolt. I expect that the Horneber brass will handle this quite well. Thanks folks.

please note the PS. for the 187g case capacity, quickload estimates the pressures to be about 40% higher than the 29k, around 40k. I do not know the pressure rating of the cartidge but i would imagine greater than the 505 gibbs, maybe around the 500 jeffery, which is 46k psi, given similar bolt thrust area.

steve505, What case capacity did you assign to the 585 Nyati to get your posted Quickload results. Mike

for the first set of numbers, i used 210g, which i think is too large. The pro and cons of simulation programs are that they are usually not good at predicating absolute performance but are good at relative performance. So i ran the following to show what the effect of case capacity is on pressure, velocity. Note that app. 10% change in velocity over case capacity comes from over a 40% increase in pressure!!! So, hard to predicate pressure just from velocity unless calibrated. I use A-square manual for calibrating quickload for other calibers, but nothing on 585 nyati, so careful. This is for the 650g woodleigh round nose in 23.5" barrel. case_capacity velocity pressure 180 2191 36990 185 2157 34330 190 2125 32069 195 2095 30124 200 2067 28434 205 2041 26949 210 2016 25636 can't figure out how to line up columns@#$%&* [ 10-08-2002, 09:35: Message edited by: steve505 ]

Thanks Steve, I wonder wether the Horneber Brass which is strobger than the Bertram Stuff will reduce pressures. Well according to your e-mail 40 K pressures are acceptable for these big bangers, and if in Africa it is what you would want.
