The Whelen can use lots of powders with good results. Varget has done well for me as well as H4895 from Hodgdon. IMR4064 was also a performer along with IMR3031 and IMR4895. Reloader 15 did well also.

35 Whelen is a new cartridge for me. Tried it out today, wth RL-7 and BLC2 using 200 and 225 grain bullets. liked it it shot prety well .Primarily an ELk rifle I will probably opt for 225 and 250 grain projectiles, What powders and loads might you sugjest for a 24 inch barreld 98 mauser? Thanks ...tj3006

RL-15 is supposed to be the powder of choice for the Wheelen. I've had great luck with it. With 225gr Swifts I load 58.5, RP brass and Rem 9 1/2 primers. jorge
