Just got back from the range. I loaded more of the 165 Gameking at 79 gr of H-4831. I loaded some at .040" off the lands; that was the depth that shot the best on my last post and you thought I might be on to something with my load development.

Well..........

I loaded 5 at the same depth, 3 - .005" deeper and 3- .005" longer just to see If I could get a better group than the 1 3/8" at 200 yards.

The best I still believe (and it shot exactly the same, thank God) was the 5 I loaded just like the first day..... .040" off.

The other two grouped well also. I had a hard time deciding on which to choose. The .040" off had vertical dispersion and the other two had a little vertical AND horizontal so I just went with the original load.

This is the fourth test I have done by picking the velocity (a set charge weight) and just tuning for accuracy by changing only the seating depth. It has worked well 3 of the 4 times. The one that didn't was the SST that shot good at 75 gr with depth tuning, but when I bumped it to 79 gr I couldn't tune it with depth changes.

Sounds great. And, I'm glad the gun doesn't know the diff between a slight change in depth. If it did...and I owned the gun....I wouldn't be happy if a .005" change in depth starting making the gun lose accuracy.
