Good day Just wondering if anyone is reloading for the 7mm-08 in a model Seven. Right now I'm using a load of 42.4grs of IMR4320 with a 120gr Balistic tip. It's verry accurate but when I chronied it the velocity is way down from the Hornady manual. I'm only getting 2600fps.My barrel length and the one used by Hornady is the same length. I'm loading this for my girlfriend for Cariboo and she may have to take longer shots than on deer so I'd like to get a faster velocity. 42.4 grs is the Max for that powder. Anyone have a faster load? Thanks Mike

I sold off my little Sako years ago, but I was getting 2700fps from a 18.5" bbl. w/ 140gr bullet so something isn't right. I would try RL15 or H414 & see if you can't get closer to 2900-3000fps from a 22"bbl. Maybe double check that chrony. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Something's not quite right. I get 2800fps out a 20" barrel on a REM 600 with the 139gr Interbond. I use a max load of IMR-4895. Try some other powders. RH

Best velocity with 139/140 grain bullets in my 7mm-08 with an 18" barrel is with a near-max load of IMR3031. Best accuracy is with RE-15. S40 Youth and vitality are wasted on the young.

41.0 grains of 4064 with a 140 grain Accubond...you will not find a better shooting load for this round. It gives me outstanding accuracy in my 20" barrel Carolina Precision Rifles model 7...always under .2" with moderate recoil, decent velocity. With that load and bullet, it puts a whammy on the deer. Virtually every deer I have shot with that combination has been a bang-flop...come to think of it..they ALL have been bang-flops. my 2 cents worth. Hank

I use 45 grains of varget behind the 120 grain balistic tip and i'm getting over 3100fps with this bullet from a 23 inch barrel. I find varget works exceptionally well in my 7-08 with bullets up to 140 grains

Just checked my gun, it has an 18" barrel so maybe that explains the slower velocity? Mike

Hello Well I've been working with the same rifle you are.. Mod 7 7mm-08 with the short tube, and 120 gr. bullets. I have worked with 120 Nos BT, 120 Sierra and some 130 gr Speers. My results might be quite different than what you might see with your rifle but I'll tell you what I found out so far. First let me say that 120 gr loads with this rifle seem to be very sensitive to ambient temperature changes. What works great in warm weather won't work in cold and visa versa. That might be something you want to be aware of. The most accurate loads I've found so far are; 120 gr Nos BT 44.5 grs Reloader 15 Fed 210/ R-P brass 2820 fps 120 gr Sierra spitzer: 42.0 grs IMR 3031...2820 fps 44.0 grs 748........2860 fps 44.5 grs IMR 4320...2740 fps 50.0 grs IMR 4350...2840 fps All the above R-P cases/Fed 210 2.745" C.O.L. All these loads shoot well under 1" at 100 yds.. around 2" at 200 yds and 3-4" at 300. Before I call a load good, it needs to group well at 300 yds. So you can see that although IMR4320 groups well, it is much slower than the rest in my rifle also. Now again, these loads were shot in warm weather. I will have to adjust a little when the weather turns cold. I did some work with the 130gr Speer spitzer but I'm thinking this rifle does not like that bullet.. Anyway thats what I have so far. Hope this helps Why do they call it common sense, when it is so uncommon??
