I am almost out of large rifle primers but I have a good supply of large magnum ones. i am loading 243 & 6mm Creedmoor, with the normal appropriate powders(and trail boss). would substituting the magnum for regular be dangerous?

thanks

As dpcd said and you'll be okay. Work up means like you say, start low or a little lower than a load you may have been using with standard primers and go from there. Some reloaders notice no difference in changing primers but depends on your cartridge and load.
FWIW the books usually recommend only using standard primers for cast bullet loads and not magnum primers but nobody has ever explained why. I've used both and never noticed anything untoward happening.

Books are only used as guidance.

Use your head, and you will be find.

We were shooting pistol over the weekend.

Mostly 357 and 44 Magnum.

We used our own lathe turned bullets, and used - take a deep breath......

Powder we recovered from Naval flares, that had expired in June 1980!!

We were given 4 types of flares, opened all of them up, mixed all the powder together.

12 grains of this mixture gives us about 1100 fps with these bullets.

But in a Ruger Redhawk, they shoot extremely accurately!

One friend who had his doubts before, kept saying "holly macaroni! That is better accuracy than I get with Blue Dot!"

....but only when tempered with some sense. Work up to your best load, as said.

I pretty much like fed 210 (200 cci) for the calibers mentioned and 215 (250 cci) on magnum cases, but either way seems to work as well..They say use magnum powders with ball powder, but Ive never seen that to be anything but BS..Ive used 210s with all ball powder when I couldn't get 210s for almost a year and never a glitch...Just more reloading guess work by the uninformed..
