I just picked up a T/C Compass in 6.5 and I bought a couple of pounds of Staball. Winchester claims it is very temp insensitive and was developed specifically for the 6.5C and produces the highest velocities of any of the Hodgen family of powders. I picked up the latest Hodgen reloading magazine at Barnes & Noble to get some loads. Looking through this manual, Staball looks very promising in a lot of cartridges besides the Creedmores. In the 6.5C my starting loads are with Sierra 130 Gamekings beginning with 42.0 grains and go up in 1/2 gr. increments to 44.0. I just have not been able to get to the range to try them out. Thats all I've got for now, hopefully someone else has used it and post results. Lee. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

Shot a few in the 270 Win so far, and I'm impressed. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

I have so many lbs of other powders I most likely will never try any of the new ones.

Hodgdon shows some impressive velocities for the 7mm-08 as well as 30-06. Has anyone tried Staball in .308 Win or 338 Federal? Can someone run Hodgdon's 7mm-08 load thru QuikLOAD to see what it shows (https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle)? Also run .308 and .338 Fed?

I've run about a pound through two 6.5 CM's. Easy to get good accuracy (sub 3/4 MOA from bench/bags) in one. The other I'm still working with. My SD's and ES's weren't as consistent as I thought they'd be given groups/on target performance (out to 600 yards). But that could be my technique, my reloading, or my old chronograph.

I found a list of applications for Staball, but 308W is not on the list. I was hoping to find a powder that would give the 308 more velocity than I am getting with IMR4064. Every time I try to speed it up past 2425 ft/sec shooting 165 grain Speer BTSP the accuracy falls apart. Dennis Life member NRA

Well if you can load the 7mm-08 and the 168 grain bullets with this powder, it will work in the 308 and the 165. Hodgdon has data for both the 7 and the 260 Rem. Same case. Has data for the 30-06 too. Either they haven't taken the time to test the 308 for data or it's just a marketing decision much like they did with SuperForm powder. That's my point. Given the velocities of 160 and 175 gr in 7-08 and the velocity of 165 gr 30-06, what could one expect in 165-180 gr 308 and 180-200 gr 338 Fed?

I'll eventually try Staball in 308 but I like the results with AR-comp, Varget and I4895 in 308.

In looking over the current published Hodgon data, it appears that Staball works best with overbore or near overbore cartridges. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

CFE 223 is by far the best powder I've ever used in the .308. CFE 223 gives me velocities much higher and with less apparent pressure than any other powder I've tried in a .308.

I just bought a metric butt-load of Staball 6.5 powder. While it's not really temp insensitive, its way better than most and, irrespective of that, it shoots wonderful groups. Plan on about .5 fps fluctuation per degree of temperature but excellent SD numbers. Your results may vary. Hit the number that your rifle likes (node, as the kids call it) and you're good to go. It's also very versatile across a wide range of cartridges so that helps me out when loading for kids and their kids during this powder shortage. Zeke

Quickload agrees with you. CFE223 is top and I4064 is about 28th on the list. Of course the spread from 1st to 28th is 100fps. top 10. with 168 nos., 54k , 20in bbl.
