Pre-A1 1911 load cycling

My brother is going to start reloading for his 1917 Colt 1911. He is going to use AA#7 and 230 gr lead round nose bullets. He is concerned that the start load of 9.9 gr may not cycle the action. Any advice is welcome.

Maybe the start load won't cycle the action. It's no big deal. Load a few up, try them and if they don't cycle the action increase the load a bit.
