Results today with my .375 H&H Magnum Sako 85 Kodiak and the .375 300gr CEB MTH L08 (single feed) using IMR 4064. Near maximum load. Not bad for a 21-1/4" barrel. https://cuttingedgebullets.com...tch-tactical-hunting This bullet has a 0.75 ballistic coefficient for higher downrange energy. For example at 900 yards energy is 2000 ft-lbs. Or 3044 ft-lbs vs. 1765 ft-lbs at 400 yards - no comparison to the 270gr TSX. Considering to install a more appropriate scope to take advantage of its long range capabilities.

Nice result, but of academic interest only. Who would want to shoot anything at 900 yards with a 375?? And I think energy is the last thing I would look for when hunting. Bullet placement is infinitely more important. And if the bullet can penetrate deep enough and destroy vital organs, that is it.

Missed opportunity on a long range shot that's otherwise impossible? Got the technology. Theoretical to practical. Can be done. Tally-ho!

Last year I wounded a kongoni, and next we saw him he was 500 yards away on the opposite hillside. He was still going strong, and would probably kept it up all day, if we could keep up with him. I shot him at that distance. 300 grain Walterhog bullets. There is no way I would have fired at him at that distance if he was not wounded.

Successes hunting Elk and Bighorn Sheep above treeline at range with non-ballistic reticle scopes using hold-over estimations. Guess work not the best. Considering a Nikon Omega 3-9x40mm with ballistic reticle for my 375. Got one on my 45-70 Ruger No.1 that for the money works surprisingly well for extended ranges. Calibrated for my 375 CEB load to deliver maximum energy at range:

I believe long range shooting of wildlife spells broken legs and gut shots..The problem as Ive seen it is a good or even great shot will seldom miss, but he tends to wound..A piss poor shot will miss and no harm is done..This long range sniper stuff has taken "hunting" out of the sport.. What about them cross canyon shots? 375 H&H 300gr CEB vs. 338 WM 265gr AB LR. A bit more energy from the 375 at 500 yards, 2800 ft-lbs compared to 2500 ft-lbs for the 338.

I have to agree with Ray + the old adage,'get as close as you can, then get closer.'I know a lot of guys that brag about the distance they shoot at game. I personally see nothing to brag about, but that's just me. Never mistake motion for action.

You are absolutely right when it comes to hunting. Sometimes, though, you have no other choice. And being able to take that shot is great.
