JohnFM45 Colt and 300grn cast bullet
I bet somewhere in these pages are some loads for that, but I can't find it.
I'm wanting to find some loads using 2400.
I just have a lot of that powder and want to try it in the 45 with that heavy bullet.
TIA

waterratI've been shooting 1000's of 250gr and carry 300gr loads in a Model 25 S&W 25 over 16grs of 2400.
I tend to use more than enough gun

JohnFMThanks. 16 grns sounds like a pretty stiff load.
I'll try a few grns less and work up towards it.
Looking for something a Ruger can handle, I might shoot them out of my 460 S&W XVR to see how they behave while I work up a load.

Steve E.The following loads are safe IN MY GUN, please REDUCE accordingly and work up for your gun.
16 gr---19 gr of 2400 with a 300 gr cast bullet
also for me the following works good also,
SAME WARNING APPLIES
20 gr----23.5 gr of H110 with 300 gr cast bullet
Again these are safe in my gun so start low and work up for yours.

JohnFMSteve,
You have any source for those loads? Any pressures etc?
As popular as that powder is I keep thinking I'll find some loads, but I think I finally went through every old manual I got and still don't find anything at bullets weights like 300+ grns.

jeffeossoJohn you can call the powder company and they may have a starting load. I now only shoot 250s with that powder
11 March 2013, 20:34
JohnFMYeah, probably could.
But, what the heck, I might just load up a few Ruger/TC loads with powders I have lots of published data on and use those bullets for what I had intended them for.
That's my 454 Casull and 460 S&W.

Steve E.John
I scanned a page out of a manual a few years ago but it doesn't have any company name on it.
The pressure for the 2400 loading goes from 24,400 to 29,500 and the H110 loadings pressure runs from 24,400 up to 32,000.
22 gr. of H110 is very accurate for me.

EterryI tried some 300 grainers in my 45 LC Ruger blackhawk, and the rear sight wouldnt go low enough to hit anything, it hit about a foot high at 25 yards. I tried pushing them faster to lower impact, but couldnt get it on paper. I sadly gave up and went back to my 255 grains in front of a healthy dose of 2400.
Regards,
Eterry
Good luck and good shooting.

arkypeteI found that 300 grain gas checked Saeco sized .454 with LBT Blue does great with 20 grains of H110 in my Colt Anaconda and Rossi 92.

JohnFMDang you guys. I guess I'm gonna have to try some loads with 2400!
It's always been a good powder.

whelenite14 grains of Accurate No. 7, or 16 grains of Accurate No. 9 should give 1050-1100 fps, depending on barrel length.

michael carrollbrian pearce has an article in the last issue of handloader abt .45 lc and 285 gr cast. mentioned 2400. might be worth a look.
