If the cartridge has to be fireformed I see no sense to it. Now that round and the 6mmX is quite popular here with our long range team. They use if for a "over the course" rifle shooting from 200 yds to 600 yds slow and rapid fire. The barrels are of target weight and 1-8 twisted and premium makes. Iron sights are used.

One of our members got another new barrel so chambered and set out to fireform 300 new cases. I see that as a waste of time and money.

Unless your really really sure you 'need' that or a similar round I would go with the standard 243 if you need a repeater and the 6mm br for a single shot.

One of our 'team' builds competition rifles. He is shooting the 6mmX with a 1-8 Lija on a Tikka action. This is for competition that includes rapid fire. He has one of those large bolt knobs on it and really does well with it. As you know the Tikka is easy to load fast with that detachable magazine and fast to operate with it's short bolt lift.

As for myself I was one of the first to shoot the 6mm in positition competition having started with the 243 in 1957 and the 6mm Rem Intl. in 1961. The Rem. Intl. uses two form dies. While I had it rebarreled to the same round again because it's 'mine' I would go with the 6mm Br if I were starting over for this free rifle used to 300 meters.

The 6mm X and the 6 XC are two different cartridges. The 6mm X needs to have brass made while the 6 XC has factory brass available.

IMHO neither are as good as the 6 x 47 LAPUA or the 6 x 47 SWISS.

This is some-what unrelated but some of the tightest groups I have
ever shot were when I was blowing out cases for a .243 ackley and most recently on a new Sav 250/3000 ack. So much so that I am thinking about shooting a "hunter class for score" and fire forming brass at the match.

I have found the same thing when fireforming. However unless the load is for some specific purpose it is wasteful.
