A pal of mine gave me about 7 pounds of this. I was looking around this forum for some data on 700-X and came across some old threads where people were loading all kinds of pistol/shotshell powders (Blue Dot, Red Dot) in large rifle cases for reduced loads.

One guy mentioned 28 gr. of 700-X in a 460 Weatherby with 400 grainers and he was getting just under 1400 fps. Can anyone confirm this?

I've always been one to follow and use established load data. This stuff is as fast as Bullseye and I figured that's the way one blows up a rifle. I just need a little reassurance.

Not a problem using shotgun/pistol powders for light reduced loads with cast bullets in the large calibres.

I've used 20.5 - 22.0 grains Red Dot with 350gr and 400gr cast in my 404 Jeffery and now use 22.0 grains Vectan AS shotgun powder with same bullets. Velocities are around 1400fps.

700X is a little slower burning on my fairly extensive burn rate chart than Red Dot/AS so I imagine 28 grains 700X in the bigger Weatherby case with 400 grain cast is about right for the light load.

Vectan AS is an absolute pleasure to use being extremely clean burning, only leaving a slight stain in the barrel after shooting.
