I want to work up some loads for a 50-90 Sharps with smokeless. Have shot well over 2,000 of Goex and Swiss but would like to try smokeless now. Any thoughts on powder/load developement? Used 3031 in my 50-70 but would like some thoughts on which powder for the larger case. Will be shooting lead projectiles (20:1) and iron sights. Thanking you in advance,

Dutch

I've never fired smokeless from my 50-90, but if I was going to, I'd probably start with AA 5744 (used to be called XMP-5744) made by Accurate Arms. I'm sure they have loads listed in the AA reloading manual too.

I like reloader 7 in my 50 alaskan, I bet a lighter charge would work great in a 50-90.

I use 5744 in my 45-120 with 550 gr. cast with great luck. Burns a bit dirty but great accuracy.

Do it right the first time.

Use SR4759 or 5744.

Both have about the same burn rate as 4227.
SR4759 is very bulky and takes up a lot of space in the case.
