Any .358 win handloaders out there that would like to share their knowledge? Looking for good elk and deer loads to use in my Sako Forester. Currently using Win 748 and the 225 Sierra for everything short of Iraqi insurgents. Will be working up a load with the 200 gr Hornaday spire pt for use on mule deer in eastern Oregon this fall and would love to hear from ya'all.

Blacktail,

For the 200 gr bullet IMR 3031 works well. I have been using RL 10 as of late with the 180 gr Speer. RL 10 has about the same burning rate as 3031 but is a finer powder so a little more will fit in.

The one load with RL 10 and a 200 gr Corelok shot well.

I used 53.7 grains of Win 748 when loading 200 gr spire points. I got between 2465 and 2535 with this load from my BLR depending on powder lot. I suggest you start 10% below this number and work up.

Blacktail,
you are already at the right bullet.. the rem 200s are designed for the 35 rem, and will DETONATE at the 2600-2700 fps you can get... same to be said with the hornady's, including the 250s...

i've taken loadsw of deer, hogs, jackrabbit and varmits with the 358 with the sierra 225 gk at ~2500 fps... using win 748, and i'ld share the load in a request, via email.

i have ONE gun that seems to like the 200 gr barnes, but that was a special order 1x10 twist
