About your initial choice of 800-X. Historically, this powder has had metering problems. They might have cured that by now, but I was never impressed. Use the Hodgdon website.

Handloader had an extensive 45 ACP article which tested several powders with cast bullets. 800X was the best. My 1911 will clover leaf at 25 yards with the load and cast bullet they recommeded. Hoping for similar results with 45 colt.

I find 800x has a metering problem also. Same as blue dot. be careful, check each case before seating the bullet.
