Unfortunately all guns are individuals and only your gun can tell you what it likes.

I am finding out that if you don't have to have max velocity out of a 30/30, they will shoot a lot of things fairly accurately.

One troublesome Winchester I have, didn't like anything except two vastly different loads.

The first was 18 grains of SR 4759 with a 150 grain Hornady RN. MV was about 1850 fps. The groups at 100yds though would rival a good bolt action rifle.

The second one, is a wild load I developed and most shooters on here think I am waiting to blow up something with it, although I have reloaded the same brass 20 times just to test it for pressure. That was a 220 grain Sierra Round Nose with 35 grains of W 748 powder for a MV of 2100 fps. If you even contemplate this load, start low and work up. Also note that the bullet must be seated below the cannelure to cycle from the magazine to the barrel. I made it the same length as some factory 150 grain loads. Recoil was noticable for a 30/30, but it a a combo that works. Someone I loaded some up for locally has taken a couple of bears and deer with it over the last several years.

Cheers

You do not say what cal. your 94 is. I happoned across a fine old pre war .32 Spl. several years back. I have worked up a load of 30g of W-748, WW brass and Hornady's 170g FNSP. It has accounted for its fair share of venison in the freezer. It will do about 3" groups at 100 yds, I have a nice Williams peep on it but hunting the bottom land I do not need to shoot that far. There a fast handling light rifle comes in very handy and the Win 94 fills that bill well as it has for over 100 yrs.

Well, with iron (open) sights, it's really the
ability of the shooter that makes the difference.
Even with a peep, at my age and sight problems
things are getting dicky.
Last evening I managed a 3shot 1 5/8 group
with 150g Sierra and 34.5 2208,(30-30) but even portable bench rests are few and far when hunting.
