I just put a Pac Nor 375-06 with 40 degree shoulder on my savage 110 lefty. I need some good data for 270 and 300 grain jacketed loads, and one for my NEI cast 345 grain load. Thanks.

This is some data from a P.O. Ackley book, 375 Whelen, page 483, for a 350 grn bullet, IMR powders;

Thanks for the data. I just spent an hour necking up 30-06 brass. Going from .308 to .375 resulted in a split neck. Using a .338 expander helped, but I ended up with a neck that was taller on one side then the other. Only by using a very clean neck, lots of lube, and .338, .358, then the .375 expander was I able to get anything close to an even length case. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You're on the right track by necking up in steps.

I use RCBS dies, so when I have forming/tech questions, I usually contact the RCBS techline (Stan Mayle) in a email for their suggestions, they are pretty good in getting info to you on questions like this, within 36 hours.

I've taken 280 brass to 416. I had better luck using Hornady expanders. They have a longer taper. Other options are using 06 basic brass from z-hat or AHR makes 280 Howell brass. You would just move the shoulder back and trim the neck. Just curious why not 35 whelen?

My 375 is basically a gibbs with a 40deg shoulder using the longer 280 case. I normally use IMR4064 and BLC-2.

I already have a 358 win, so I thought I would give 375-06 a try.

I load for a 375 Hawk which involves necking up 06 brass. If you start with 35 whelen brass, you will have a lot less split necks and you won't have nearly as much unevenness in the necks. Plus, standard whelen brass is much cheaper that buying 06 basic.

Another problem I had when I started was not using enough lube applied both inside the neck and out. The right amount of lube allows the resize to happen in one smooth motion. I can't explain why this seems to make a difference but it does.

If you really want to stick with 30-06 brass, be sure to aneal before and after necking up.

I picked up some 35 whelen brass, I had forgotten it was available. It expanded well. I loaded them with 350 grain bullets from an NEI mold and 44 grains of 4895. The brass formed well and I had no further problems. Thanks for the help.
