Hey out there, I have a Weatherby Ultralight in 25-06 that I'm having a tough time getting to shoot to my liking (one inch). I've tried Magpro powder and H4831 with 115-117 grain bullets (Nosler BT's, partitions, Sierra pro hunter and Hornady). I've only had one group under an inch. I have another similar rifle in 284 Winchester that shoots great. Any suggestions?

Bob It's likely I'm comparing bananas to collard greens here. I've got a Remington 25-06 Sendero the barrel collects copper like the penny slot on a coin sorter. The rifle is accurate as long as I keep the barrel clean. This rifle likes the 100 grain Sierra Match King and the Sierra 120 and 117 grain, lots of H4831 sc. Jim

Try 4350 powder. I've had a series of .25-06s and most of them gave their best accuracy with heavy bullets with 47-48 grains. Didn't seem to make much difference whether I used the IMR or Hodgdon version.
I've got one building and one on order right now. When I get ready to start shooting them, I'll just charge 100 cases with 47.0 grains of 4350 and start working my way through my assortment of heavy .25 cal bullets.
The Rem 120 CoreLokts are well worth trying. Some rifles really like them and they are about half the price of the more glamourous names.

Try Reloader 22 powder. I had fits with my 24" Shilen barrel till I got to this powder. You have to push it to max load to really get the accuracy. Go slow. I settled on 3350 fps with 100 grain bullets.
I have the same Weatherby rifle. I frequently get 1/2" to 1" three shot groups using 52gr H4831SC, 117 gr Sierra GameKings and Fed 210M primers. My rifle came with a short throat, so you may want to doube-check your seating depth.

Before you get too excited, you might try shooting groups at 200 yards instead of 100. Have seen very high velocity rifles and sometimes long bullets (ie, 120gr .257) that had not fully stabilized at 100 yards, but shot virtually equal groups at 200 after they had settled down. For years had 25-06 with 100 Hornady at over 3300fps (chronographed) that 1 1/4- 1 1/2" at 100 and stay at 2" at 200. Not bad for rifle and scope at 8 lbs.

Bob, Looks like you've plenty of help with data. What have you done as far as the rifle itself? I'm not familiar with the Ultralight, per se. Is it bedded? Pressure point? Lugs lapped? Barrel conditioning? There are lots of little tweaks to be done to the gun to induce tighter grouping. What have you tried?>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bug.

All I can tell you is that my dad has a Weatherby Ultalight in 25-06 and so long as you do not over heat the barrel it shoots most anything well.
My dad has had really good luck with any number of bullets in that gun. However, his all time favorite load (one that has killed more wild hogs than you would believe) consists of a 100 grain Nosler Partition over 54 grains of IMR 4831.
