You're wrong. Caveat emptor. You go in to buy a car right now wouldn't you at least determine what year model it is? There are lots of new/old ones on lotsright now. Especially if they are priced on sale? Same applies to bullets, etc., that sit on dealers' shelves when new ones have come out. None of the equipment suppliers recall their products when new ones come out, even Leupold when they changed over their scopes recently. Some of those older ones are still being sold. Retailers sell what they have in stock. They've paid for them and the manufacturer is through with them and moved on to the next chapter. It's up the the retailer and buyer, not the manufacturer.

Just a little PO'd with Redding!

I've been telling my self for over a year now that I was going to get one of their new T-7 presses. I've been fooling around with their little Boss press, long enough. Heck I was just a little PO'd when I bought the Boss 2 years ago, with them not making it clear that the Boss didn't come equipped with the steel adapter bushing as most presses did.

So 2 weeks ago, I ordered their new T-7 press from Natchez, with an extra head. I also ordered their Big Boss at the same time. When they arrived a few days ago. I noticed that neither the head on the T-7, or the extra head had the locating handle, and neither was drilled for it.

From what I can make out from their web site, this was one of the new features as of May '03 on the new T-7

http://www.redding-reloading.com/pages/t7turretpress.html

I was just a little PO'd, and E-mailed both Redding and Natchez (E-mail included below, along with the reply I received from Redding. Haven't received a reply from Natchez as of yet.)

E-mail sent:

On your website, for the "T-7 Press" it shows: May '03 upgrade - The seven-station turret head now includes an operating handle.
It is now December 2004, more than a year and a half later. I just purchased a T-7 press, and an extra head from Natchez online. I didn't get a handle for operating the head with either the press or the extra head. Or for that matter see, where a handle could even be used.
What's up!
I'm going to be greatly disappointed with both Redding and Natchez, if I was given a press that had been sitting around for 2 years, and is not the new model.

Reply received from Redding:

Hi Philip.
Thank you for using Redding Reloading Equipment. Our company policy is that we'll upgrade T-7 turrets to the new style with handle for $14.00. In your case, we'll upgrade both your turrets for that price. If you'd like this upgrade performed, simply send your turrets and a $14.00 check to the address below. Be sure and securely package them so they don't get damaged in shipment.
Regards,
Patrick T. Ryan

I guess I should feel lucky, I just don't see how!
I buy a new T-7 from one of their retailers, then I'm supposed to repackage just the heads, take it to UPS and mail them back to the manufadturer, and then have to pay them to re-do them into the new style that was being advertised almost 2 years ago.

Send it back for a refund or up-grade. Look elsewhere for one with the features you want if Natchez can`t set you up.

Why is it Reddings fault. Looks like it's all on Natchez and you!

Sounds sorta like Hornady telling me my bullets were too old for them to warranty, a week after buying them on Commercial Row at Perry....still in the plastic full case wrap. Sounds like we need a "Born-on-Date". Ha!

But, with that said, it sounds like your beef is with the retailer, not the manufacturer. Unless you can weasel out of the retailer when they bought the product from Redding....

I'd just send Redding your turrets and a check for $14 and get it over with. Give Redding credit, they ARE trying to work with you and have offered you a very reasonable deal. Besides, you can blow that much money at the movies, or at Denny's, or on a third of a tank of gas, or on late fees at Blockbuster. Once you've invested that additional $14 on this new equipment, you should be set for the long haul in this department.

You can also waste more than $14 on letters, angry phone calls, exchange hassles, return shipping, etc., and end up back at exactly the same place where you are right now...........

I'm really surprised. I have (and love) my T-7 which I have had for about a year now. If your speaking of the drilled holes around the head that allow you to locate the rotating shaft in each, mine came with this.

I agree with Allen that you take the path of least resistance in this case. First, it ain't broken so the warranty claim/born-on-date crap is just that. They are offering to upgrade your press for far less than their internal cost to do so. And, they have no control over how long a vendor holds their older invetory.

Shame on Natchez, though for not making clear you were buying an obsolete version. There is where your bitch may lie but is it worth getting worked up for $14 bucks? Just don't give them any more business except maybe order one 130 gr 270 bullet at a time once a week for the next year.

Consensus seems to be that Natchez is at fault here and not Redding. But in my way of thinking it's just the other way around. Redding advertised this new feature as being included in their new T-7 press nearly 2 years ago. Seems very unlikely to me that Natchez purchased a 2 year supply of the Redding T-7's probably knowing some new changes was in the works. Especially since most companies are drop shipping nowadays anyway. If Redding was going to change, or add new features to the T-7 then they should have changed the model number (T-7B or such), sent out labels to be posted on old stock, or had old stock returned for modification and repackaging. You don't leave old stock out in the open market, to be sold as new, not if you want to maintain your reputation. Everything here suggest to me that maybe Redding's warehouses were full, and maybe even to this day are shipping out T-7's without this supposedly new 2 year old feature. Then telling the customer that this upgraded feature is only an option with a steep price. I will admit that I bought this item on an advertised sale for $159, Natchez's advertisement nowhere said that this was an old model, a discontinued model, or that there was any difference from what Redding was advertising, in fact they advertised it as the new T-7. Natchez's sale price was not that drastically different than what Midway was selling them for a few months ago, or what Lock, Stock, and Barrel was selling them for. I bought and expected to get a new Redding T-7, and as far as I am concerned, I didn't.

Maybe if Leupold upgraded and advertised a Diamond Coating as a new feature on their M8 scopes. Then 2 years from now one of you purchased a new M8 at the new price, but got the non upgraded scope; you'd be disturbed and say it was the retailers fault not Leupold's, but I doubt it. I also doubt Leupold would ask to be paid to make it right.

I've been dealing with Natchez for quite awhile without problems, though I think they over charge on their shipping, but then again, they're clear across country from me. But with Redding, I've bought their products from their resellers, and the two times I've had problems and have had to call Redding, well I've not been pleased either time.

I'd still like to know, has anybody bought a new Redding T-7 press from anybody that included the head that has been drilled and tapped for the handle and/or gotten the handle? Just curious!

I buy my reloading supplies from Gunstop in Minnesota. I bought a T-7 over a year ago and it came with the holes and handle. I am buying some more T-7 heads because it is just sooooooo nice to use.

Maybe Judge Judy could help you out?

I've had excellent service with Redding over the years. I suspect you may have received a unit that was in stock before the new offer came about and that's why the contents were different. You got a model that had been superceded by a later production run. That's indeed unfortunate. Hope you get the problem solved to your satisfaction. Best wishes.
