Hey guys,

I want to load for my super blackhawk in 44 mag and I cast bullets in 300grs. is there any load data for these bullets using red dot, 700X, no.2? I don't care about performance, I just have a ton of these bullets and powder and they would just be plinkers.

Accurate's Load Guide #1 shows 8.6 - 9.5 grs of #2 for 300 gr lead bullets.

do lead bullets that say gas check need to be gas checked, or can they be fired without it?

If the boolit takes a gas check, put them on.
A 300 gr boolit needs to be stepped up with a slow powder for the best accuracy. With fast powders all you have are close range plinking loads, a waste of all that lead.
For lighter loads you should be using lighter boolits like a 240 gr. or even lighter.
You are ignoring the twist rate!

These are unverified / untried, but come come from "LoadTech" software, using a Lyman 300gr GC bullet in a 44 Mag with a 6 in barrel.

Red Dot:
Start: 6.4gr; vel 905fps; pressure 33,350 psi
Max: 7.1gr; vel 965fps; pressure 36,000 psi

700X:
Start: 8.5gr; vel 1005fps; pressure 33,225 psi
Max: 9.5gr; vel 1070fps; pressure 36,000 psi

Also, I have checked my Lyman manuals from #42 through #48 and they don't list loads for the powders you referenced.

Typically, when you have a 1 gr or less difference between a start and a max load, you are on thin ice and hoping that an accident does not happen.

Bottom Line IMHO is those powders are really not "ideal" (maybe even "not suitable") for the 44 Mag -- which is why you never see them listed in a load manual that uses actual test data vs a software prediction.
