Does anyone have any good varmint loads for a 14 inch Contender? Thanks

www.hodgdon.com lists loads for Varget. 25.0 gr. for 50 gr. seems light. I'm running 26.0 for 69 gr. in a Rem. 700 heavy barrel. 26.0 gr. for 55 gr. in an AR. (Your milage may vary.) ------------------

For years I have shot the 60grain nosler which works very good. Now have 16" barrel also and now it works better. Nosler doesn't make the 60 grain any more which I think is a mistake. Have taken a lot of coyotes. Still have 500 to 700 of them. But you could go to the 60 Sierra. It reaches out there. Good Luck I shoot a hot load and so seat the bullet out so I can't put one in my mini-14 by accident.

I've had good luck with H-4895 and 50gr speer TNT with mil-spec cases and cci mag primers for small varmits.

I have two standard loads with which I start testing in any .223. If a .223 doesn't like either of these, there's something wrong with the gun. Try 24.0 H 322 or 27.0 W 748. Both use mil brass and the WSR primer with the 50 VMax. Seat to 0.020" off the lands in your gun. Neither is max in most manuals. H322 is particularly good in the 14" Contender as it does not produce a heavy blast or fireball. Expect 2900-3000 fps. I will say, however, that these days I shoot a Bee-equivalent load 99% of the time in my Contender. It uses either the 40 VMax (or Ballistic Tip) or the 45gr Sierra or Hornady bullets for the Hornet. Powder charge is 13.0 of Blue Dot over a CCI 400 or Rem 6 1/2 (NOT 7 1/2) primer. Again, you'll get 2900-3000 with almost no recoil and very little blast. Accuracy is outstanding. Cool-burning, too - for those prairie dog sessions!
