I reload for the 458 winchester magnum. I have reload data for a 400gr speer bullet pushed by 72 grains of IMR4350. I do not know where I got this load but I lived it. was accurate enough and recoil was light since velocity was around 1700ft/sec. I now shoot 440 cast performance hard cast bullets and was wondering if this powder charge would be ok. I ALWAYS follow load data recipes but was hoping that a slightly lighter load would not cause any problems. the way I figure it the powder charge is light for the cartridge in the first place and the 440gr bullet takes up a little more space in the shell therefore less empty space. the 458 win mag typically runs with powders in the compressed to very compressed mode. any help from reloading gurus would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Dr. John -
If it's worked for you in the past, no reason it won't keep on working.

Check out Cast Performance's website http://www.castperformance.com/info/loaddata.htm for some other load ideas.

Hi John
althou not a Guru it looks that your load should be OK!
IMR Powders
states the use of 72gr of 4350 to a 510gr bullet, and you have used it to a 400gr so it should work fine with your 440gr
