We have been seeing an ever growing shortage of Rifle primers here in NE Iowa. Any one else notice this?

People are buying up everything they can find due to the Obama/Pelosi Presidency. Powder is also VERY short supply.

I have a tendency to believe it may also be due to the economy !.

Many places are simply NOT STOCKING as Money is TIGHT !.

There are several factors involved. Yes, shooters are stocking up in preparation for a possible assault weapons ban or other restrictions.

It is also the off season for hunting and many sporting goods stores have their money invested in their fishing inventory right now. The store managers make the switch every year and the increased reloading and ammo demand has caught them off gaurd.

Thirdly there is indeed somewhat of a shortage of reloading product out there. Over the past few years there have been spotty shortages of primers in spring and summer but this is a bit earlier than we have seen before.

Four is the price of metals which has been falling for a while. Dealers don't want to be caught with expensive ammo and bullets if prices start falling.

Lastly is the economy. If a lot of folks loose their jobs, the demand for recreational shooting supplies is most certainly going to go down. I have already seen some local gun clubs that are starting to fall on hard times. The economy may be able to close ranges that the gun grabbers can't touch.

This link to midsouth shows an aweful lot of primers "on order" or "low stock" But there are still some available.....this is no where as bad as it was many years ago when one couldn't find a primer anywhere except if you knew an ancient reloader that had a private stash of primers.....

I stocked up then and still have some of that stach.....wait till it's over and then put 10,000 in stock highly and carefully packaged!

Many gun shops in Nebraska,"not far from you" have done a years worth of buisness since the election. Is it the economy or is it politics. You tell me! I have a relative that works at Hornady and he says they can't make anything fast enough, does that sound like a bad economy?

Many of the retailers purchasing and manufacturers scheduling decisions are made many months in advance. The buying surge has only been going on for about two months. Before the election most of the manufacturers were more concerned with the volatility in the metals markets and not wanting to get caught with a lot of brass, copper and lead that was way too high priced.

The retailers and manufacturers will eventually get caught up but it will take time.

It's both. Manufacturers scaled back when metal prices skyrocketed and sales dropped in the hope that future prices would be less ridiculous. Add to that Democrats which have placed restrictions on us before and presto -you have a buying frenzy on already limited stock.

It's fear driven buying. Everyone is concerned, & rightfully so, that the liberal Dems. will pass massive restrictions &/or taxes on ammo & components. So everyone is buying while the buying is possible. It's nation wide, so I would buy what I could when I could & hope at least the congress goes back to the Rep. in two years. knife
Shame on all of your Dems. that put thses morons in office. shame

All I am saying is that ANYTHING gun related is selling like is selling like crazy. Talk to any Midway, Midsouth, Wideners, Brownells and they will all tell you the same thing. Guns and ammo and reloading components are selling faster than ever, period.

This simply points out one very important thing .The Country is filled with fools with foolish notions !.

WHERE DID WHITE MAN GO WRONG?

An old Indian chief sat in his hut on the reservation, smoking a
ceremonial pipe and eying two US government officials sent to
interview him.

Chief Two Eagles, maybe you can help us in answering this question,
"Where did the white man go wrong?" asked one official. You have
observed the white man for over 90 years. You've seen his wars and his
technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's
done."

The chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion,
"Where did the white man go wrong?"

The chief stared at the government officials for over a minute and
then, calmly replied, "When white man found the land, Indians were
running it. No taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, women did
all the work, medicine man free, Indian man spent all day hunting and
fishing, all night having sex.."

Then the chief leaned back and smiled,

"Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like
that.

onefunzr,
I'll bet you are going to turn 12 years old soon. Real mature. I would live 50 lives in BFE before 1 in the middle of "libville" USA.

Back on topic. The primer shortage is quite obviously politically driven. Panic buying, but maybe rightfully so. Only time will tell what happens to the shooting sports. We can only hope it doesn't go the route of England or Australia. The outcome is pretty much proven there. Join the NRA, contact your congressman. Be a voice, not a armchair quarterback just complaining. It may not be much, but it's all we can do.

Tough luck to you folks in the heartland.

I suppose it's ironic that the middle of "libville" has got primers coming out our wazoo. Can't swing a dead cat in a gun shop without hitting every style of every brand. Kinda makes you wonder: is it cause 'us libs' don't reload much, or is it that we have more gunshops to shop in? In any event, just cause the OP cried wolf doesn't make primers scarce other places in the country.
