Guys

Can anyone out there provide some uiseful load info for the 140 grain failsafe bullet in the .270 winchester?

I intend to use W-W brass and probably the Federal # 210GM primer

I am in the U.K but most US cannister powders are avaiable with us.

If anyone can shed a light on usable accurate loads, including suggested C.O.L etc ,please let me know.

Loads need not be the fastes available, accuracy is the required end result

I have tried the Barnes 140 grainers, including the TSX but have only met with mediocre accuracy of 3 or more inches at 100 yards.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Jonathan... I prefer H4831sc in the 270. IMR4831 or RL22 work very well too though I like the "temperature insensitive" H4831sc better than these two. In my 22" bbl'd M70 270 I got right at 3,000 fps with 140 gr. bullets. The 140 Failsafe is an awesome bullet... my hunting partner has used it exclusively for our elk for a number of years with excellent results.

I agree, H48321sc would be one of my choices, 58grs. max, but I wouldn't use the Federal primer, WLR would be my choice in that dept. Of course, the failsafe is not my bullet of choice either for the 270. 140 SST would be my pick, for deer, anyway. Jay

I use 71.0 grains of Retumbo in my 270WSM with Nolser Accubonds..this is a compressed load. I suggest starting with a reduced load though and work up. I got this data from another fellow that shoots the exact same rifle. But I loaded below 71 grains I believe starting at 67 grains. Low recoil b/c of the slow burning powder. I still am a big believer in the Failsafes but now I'm Accubonds all the way!

I haven`t loaded the Failsafe but I have used R22 with very good result under 140 gr Hornady SSTs and the Sierra 140gr GK BTHP.

Hey, can't read, can't type...sorry.
If I were starting a new 270 load, I think I'd try H4831SC.

Thanks Guy's

Seems H 4831 gets the thumbs up, what is the difference between the WLR primer and the Federal #210 GM.

Probably about 50 cents a hundred. Believe they're close as far as igniting powder goes. Jay
