I built my first .25-06 in 1970......and have varminted and hunted deer with it until about ten years ago when I went to the .257 Roberts as my quarter-bore rifle.....

Both of the bullets you mention are great varmint bullets although I prefer the V-Max.

I'm not sure what kind of varmints you're looking for but if red mist is the goal.......you'll be delighted.

I have burned up several 25-06 barrels with the 75gr. V-max. Very entertaining, and addicting.

My powder of choice was IMR 4350, 55.5 gr..................(gives me a "chubby" just thinking about the LOAD) Big Grin

That 75 gr Vmax is my favorite bullet in my 25-06. Always gives a nice reaction at the target, and is quite accurate. I'd say he picked that component right. Haven't used H4350 - I settled on Varget with these as it gives me nice small groups.

A 25-06 with a 20" barrel ought to be interesting. I bet that has a nice fireball at the muzzle!

Thanks for the replies. i use a moderator on the rifle so its not a bad to shoot.

I am using federal 85 grain ballistic tips but they are working out at around 2.50 euro a shot as opposed to 70 cent for the reloads.

they are a super bullet, its my first season using the 25.06 have used the 6,5/55 for 7 years, very impressed by the 25.06 all my stalking is on sika/hybreds in ireland.
