Hi guys!

I have a S&W 625 and the manual that came with it doesn´t tell me if it´s ok with P+ or P++ loads in it!

Up until now I have shot Fiocchi 230 hardball and handloads in 230 and 185 grains both jacketed and cast.

The revolver performes great however i have been thinking.

1. Since it a revolver, i could probably to some extent disregard the length restricitons for the .45 ACP round right?

2. If I can load it long so to speak can i by using .45 super or other stronger brass up my loads a bit or can I safely use say heavier bullets like 245 or 260 jacketed or cast?

3 Any real input in this matter would be greatly appriciated.

Please excuse my poor english, you must consider the fact that i am a Swede.

Best regards Christian

Convert S&W 25/625 (.45ACP) to shoot .460 Rowland $ 99.00
http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/460loadchart.htm

45 Auto 21,000 psi
45 Auto +P 23,000 psi
460 Rowland 39,000 cup

One might infer something like this:

+P+ would be 25,000 psi
+P++ would be 28,000 [45 Super]
+p+++ 31,000 psi
+P++++ 34,000 psi
+P+++++ 37,000 psi [460 Rowland]

I have been shooting 24 gr H110 230 gr FMJ 1.4" with my S&W 25-2 with 45acp brass and with 45 auto rim brass. Quickload thinks this is 39,000 psi.

Per my experiments with a 45acp 98 Mauser, 45 Super brass is no stronger than any other 45acp brass.

Great thanks tnekkcc!

But what would a conversion for 90$ be like?
Whar is it that the do? For a pistol the change the main spring and perhaps add a buffer, a bit of tveaking on the ejector, polishing the ramp, but what do they do to a wheelgun?

2. In my tests here do you think it will be safe for mee to lenghten total lenght of the loaded round a bit?

Best regards Christian

your 625 will digest pretty hot loads. much more than an auto will. You would have to see how the cyllinder is bored to find out if you can use longer brass or not, but the plain old acp brass will still hold a lot of powder

You probably can't get longer brass in your M625. The cyl. should be bored to headspace the rounds on the case mouth. The moon clip is primarily for extraction. You can load the rounds to a longer OAL though. This would allow you to load say a 250grLSWC. You can also go to the .45AR cases & forget the moon clips. This would be an easy way to keep track of hot loads for your rev. vs. semiauto. Running .45acp+p loading data in your M625 is no problem.

$90 would likely get 6 chambers reamed .060" deeper, so the 460 Rowland brass will fit. No advantage to a handloader, but a big deal to a non handloader.
