plastic tips on bullets

Hello the campfire:
Since my by-pass surgery I have been sitting around thinking of strange things.
One is, what happens to the plastic tips on bullets such as the interbonds or even the new pointy lever action bullets? None of the recovered bullets show any sign of the tip. Am I ingesting it in a white tail sholder roast? Does it vaporise? Does it go into another dimention and collect in a great big pile out side of Federation Headquarters?
If we ingest it, is it food quality? Has it been tested in mice? Does it cause otherwise healthy persons to suddenly have to have five
by-passes? Should the FDA investigate?
Do I have too much time on my hands?

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?

I think you have a little to much time on your hands. How's your walking going? I know your chest probably isn't feeling great yet.

Walking is ok most of the time. Chest still hurts if I over do, which is most of the time. I am in re-hab, but they want me to slow down and I still have lifting restrictions. Tried to swim a little last week and was sore for three days. old age is a bitch and it takes a young man to survive it.
Thanks for asking.

Bill it's going to take time. My dad always told me getting old was hell. But it beat the option. I’m beginning to appreciate those words more everyday.

I have found a couple of them over the years...yes you may possibly ingest one. They are tough little critters that just end up being one of the fragments.

I'd be more concerned about the molybdenum coating some folks use than the plastic (polycarbonate) tips.

I have found a couple of the tips in animals I have shot. The tips were always found close to the entry hole.

Gidday Guys,

Personally I would worry more about the lead being poisonous than the polycarbonate tips.

Actually this is a problem only if the lead becomes colloidal and can get into the blood stream. Shooting birds with shotguns is safe as the lead shot can be safely swallowed and passed thru with no problem.....even though there's enough lead in a single #6 pellet to kill many people.

Just be thankful you don't have a gizzard!!!!!

Gidday Vapodog,

Glad to hear that. I have eaten so much shot game over the years that if it were absorbed I would have trouble with the dentists X-rays. It may save the bills I get from him as a result of steel shot!!!

Happy Hunting

just make sure when you eat that tip to pay attention to the direction, so that the taper is going the right way on the way out animal

Hey VapoDog, I use a lot of Moly Coated Bullets on Deer, but have never been concerned about it.

At the speed my Bullets are going when they make Impact with the " Shoulders ", there is enough damage that a bit of that meat gets trashed anyhow for a couple of inches around the Entrances and Exits. And the stuff inbetween the shoulders is typically a soupy mess which isn't on my list of edibles.

Are you aware of something I should be concerned about when using the Moly?

Did you not see the FDA report. When a 5 oz rat ate 5 lb of moly in 1 month it got cancer. Sure glad I don't live in California. Everything that I buy has a warning that it causes cancer in California.

Bill,
Good luck to you on your recovery. Be patient and be disciplined with your rehab. You did not get in your condition overnight and you can't change it overnight, so just keep plugging away and you should do fine. You can make tremedous improvement over time.
