I'm headed to the 500 yard range tomorrow with my 308 and thought I'd bring the 6mm too. I just got these bullets and haven't had a chance to work up a load. I would like some suggestions for a standard accuracy load for the Sierra 70 grain HPBT MatchKing. I have a factory 6mm Remington 700BDL Varmint from the 70's or so. Fed 210m or CCI large rifle primers. IMR 4064, 4350,4895 BLC 2 W 760 Any help would be fabulous. Any loads for the 105g AMAX would be great too. [ 05-09-2003, 01:57: Message edited by: MLC ]

Well, all I can tell you is that for pure accuracy in my 6mm Remington the 70 grain Sierra Matchking is the bullet of choice. I have had mixed results with this bullet on prairie dogs and ground squirrels, but for accuracy, nothing will top it! My favorite load in my 6mm Remington is as follows: W-W case Fed 210M primer 48 grains H 4350 powder Sierra 70 grain HPBT In my custom rifle with a 26 inch Shilen barrel this load gives 3560 fps. I can shoot them faster, but this is where the best accuracy occurs. ( I have shot them as fast as 3700 fps, but this load shoots the best groups.) With this load I have fired a number of 0.25 inch groups for five shots at 100 yards. Now, this is not mundane rifle. It is a custom Remington 700 that has a HEAVY Shilen barrel, an action that has been worked over, a Jewell trigger, lapped scope rings, etc. etc. But none the less, when I want pure accuracy this is the load I turn to. MLC, I run the 105 A-Max (mollied!) under 46 gr of IMR 4350 in a 28", 1-8" twist barrel. I seat at 3.020" - any longer and the groups go to hell. It's a LONG way off the leade in my SAAMI chamber. Redial

This bullet has been very accurate in my 6mm -- a Remington 700 Varmint Special with the heavy barrel. Mine is an older one too -- I don't know just how old as I bought it used in about 1985, and it has the stock with the pressed, rather than cut checkering. My rifle seems quite persnickity about what powder it likes. The best load I've found with the 70 gr. Sierra Matchking bullet is is 41 gr. of IMR 4064. Remington or Winchester brass. CCI 100, Remington 9 1/2, or Federal 210 primer. I also tried IMR and H 4350, IMR 3031, H414, IMR 4831, and H380 powders in it. All gave unsatisfactory results in this rifle with this bullet. My 6mm is a older one like yours. I have never got this gun to shoot the slower burning powders very well. With the 70 gr. Sierra I use H335, I don't remember the amount right off hand. With the heavier bullets the gun seems to like H414. I can't imagine I'm getting maximum velocity but I'm more concerned about accuracy. I've been shooting more 55 gr. Nosler BT's lately, what an accurate bullet in this rifle. This bullet likes IMR 4064. Good Luck, Jeff

Have experienced great accuracy from that bullet out of a 6 Rem. and it's Ackley Imp. counterpart.
